Peaceful villas nestled in the quiet northwest corner of São Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal, surrounded by typical Açorean cow farms, and only minutes from a Black sand beach, volcanic crater hikes filled with lush green scenery, a natural ocean thermal hot spring, and the most beautiful sunsets.
Vila Pilar is a gated retreat space on the island of São Miguel, in the northwest corner of the island, in a private rural village surrounded by cow farms, with a view of the ocean, and is the ideal place to host your next intimate retreat, getaway or special group event. When you book your retreat or event with us, you have the option to book the entire property, including the following:
Three (3) private apartment “suites”, each with a King sized bed (or two twin beds depending on your needs), an en-suite bathroom, a fully stocked kitchenette with a four burner stovetop and a tabletop oven, a comfortable living room sofa that pulls out to a full-sized sofa bed, and a SmartTV with all streaming platforms. Each apartment has a private patio and garden area with 2 lounge chairs.
There are two stone houses on the property that, for a separate fee, can also be reserved. The smaller stone house can sleep 2 in one Queen sized bed, and the main stone house can sleep 4, with two bedrooms, each with a Queen sized bed.
Retreat hosts have full access to the lush garden with a grassy area for yoga or group activities.
Retreat hosts have full access to the BBQ area with table seating for up to 12, as well as the fully stocked BBQ.

Vila Pilar is 5.5 miles / 8.7 kilometers (a 13 minute drive) from Praia dos Mosteiros, the Blackest sand beach on the island.
Vila Pilar is 2.3 miles / 3.7 kilometers (a 5 minute drive) from Miradouro Das Cumeeiras, the edge of the Sete Cidades Crater.
Vila Pilar is a 35 minute drive from the PDL airport / downtown Ponta Delgada.

The garden area is wonderful for relaxing, you even have an ocean view. The area around Vila Pilar is very beautiful. Vila Pilar is a great starting point for numerous excursions, such as Mosteiros, Ponta da Ferraria, Sete Cidades and many more. There were also great hiking trails in the surrounding area.
